Jessica Frost, LMHCJessica Frost, LMHC

Hello, I am a licensed mental health counselor who has actively worked in the mental health field for the past seven years. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell University in 2006 with my Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology. Shortly after graduating from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, I went on to complete my graduate degree from Salem State University, where I received my Master of Science in Counseling and Psychological Services, with a concentration in marriage and family therapy in 2009. I received my professional license through the Commonwealth of Mass in July of 2011.

I have actively worked in the mental health field since graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2006. I began my professional career as an outreach case manager working with adults with acute mental illness in the community. I began my work with children/adolescents/adults/families in individual therapy during my graduate studies and have continued to work with children, adults and families since obtaining my degree in 2009 through individual, family and group treatment approaches. In addition to this, I have most recently worked on an inpatient eating disorder and psychiatric unit for two years.

When working with any client, I believe it’s important to allow an individual to feel heard and respected. I typically use the first few sessions to understand the presenting issue, as it is defined by client (and any other person that may be involved in treatment whom consent is obtained to speak with). I take time to gather information about a client's history as well as the current stressors and symptoms. Once I feel that a client has gained my trust and that I have a strong understanding of the presenting and historical issues, I approach treatment from an eclectic approach using multiple modalities such as motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral (looking at how our thoughts impact our actions and behaviors), dialectical Behavior therapy (teach self-awareness, emotion regulation, and effective coping strategies), and others. I am also a strong believer in honesty with my clients and tend to be very directive in my approaches.

Additionally, I believe that it is vitally important to work closely with all participates of a client's treatment using a "team approach" including family members, primary care physician, prescriber, dietitian (if applicable), and any other providers that may be involved.

My hours of availability are in the evenings on Tuesdays from 5-9pm and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30pm.

My areas of expertise include: depressive/mood disorders, anxiety disorders, anger management, eating disorders, CBT/DBT, trauma including sexual abuse/assaults, grief/loss, co-occurring substance abuse, couples and family therapy.

I look forward to meeting you and joining you in the process of learning, healing, and change.
