Staff-Therapists:

Maria Knight, LMHCMaria Knight, LMHC

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I graduated from UMASS Dartmouth with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. I attended Lesley University to complete my graduate degree in Professional Counseling.

I have experience working in the mental health field for over 10 years. I began working with adults diagnosed with major mental illness that lived in staffed group homes and then transitioned to an outreach program helping adults with major mental illness function successfully in their communities. My first internship was at a day program where I was a case manager and also provided group therapy for individuals with mental health diagnoses including Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia, eating disorders and personality disorders. My second internship was at a residential school with a female adolescent population. Here, I provided individual and group therapy with a focus on mindfulness and relaxation techniques. I have also worked as an In Home Therapist (IHT) which is a strength-based outreach program that works with the whole family to improve daily functioning.

Currently, I work as an Intensive Care Coordinator (ICC) at Lahey Health Behavioral Services. This program is a part of the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI) and provides community based services and supports for families who have children that are diagnosed with serious emotional disorders (ADHD, ODD, PTSD, attachment, mood and anxiety disorders). This work focuses on a strengths based approach which includes all aspects of a person’s life, including school, legal and financial issues, housing, community resources and access to appropriate therapeutic services to increase the well-being of the whole family.

Using this concept combined with teaching effective coping skills and encouraging utilization of mindfulness and relaxation techniques, I hope to increase self awareness and insight of each person I meet with for outpatient therapy. I enjoy working with all age ranges of individuals and I am also open to working with families.

I am available on Wednesdays 12-9pm, Thursdays 5-9pm and Saturdays 9am-6pm.
